DIRECTOR

Marissa Friedman is a Director at Kitamba with expertise in curriculum development, teacher training, and youth civic engagement. Before joining Kitamba, she co-founded PA Youth Vote, a nonpartisan organization working to get out the youth vote across Pennsylvania. She also led the development of middle school history curriculum and teacher training at Success Academy Charter Schools in New York City, where she sought to build culturally responsive, anti-racist curriculum that empowered students as civic actors. She holds a B.A. in American History and Literature from Harvard University and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, where she studied the history and philosophy of education and youth civic engagement. Marissa is excited to work with Kitamba and educators around the country to empower students as changemakers, equipped with the tools they need to thrive both inside and beyond the classroom.
