Business Analysts play important roles on our projects: performing research and analyses, engaging with clients, and supporting the project team. We have a wide breadth of projects and we try to match our analysts’ skills and interests to specific projects whenever possible. Typically, business analysts will:

  • Conduct research and data analysis to generate meaningful insights

  • Share analyses and insights both in writing and verbally for variable audiences

  • Support the project team by managing work plans, preparing meeting materials, and following up on next steps from meetings

  • Demonstrate initiative and independent problem-solving

  • Effectively manage time and schedule

  • Develop knowledge of client issues, needs, and context

  • Make frequent use of Excel, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Word, and PowerPoint.

In case it is helpful as a reference point, this role has similar responsibilities to a Business Analyst at McKinsey, Associate at BCG, or Associate Consultant at Bain. Travel varies by project but on average you can expect to travel once or twice a month.

Product Manager

The Product Manager owns the product development lifecycle, beginning with ideation and discovery through development and delivery. The Product Manager represents the needs of end-customers, collaborating with the development team to create alignment between the strategic goals of the product and development releases. They work closely with internal and external stakeholders to validate problems and potential solutions. They prioritize daily work across the development team and validate the product. 

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to manage complicated data products and lighter-touch tools that support education organizations throughout the country.  As part of a growing products team within Kitamba, the Product Manager will also help influence the direction of Kitamba’s broader product strategy.

The Product Manager will:

  • Define features and functionality by making requirements concrete and actionable.

  • Maintain and prioritize backlogs and roadmaps, collaborating with the leadership team, business analysts, project managers, UX designers, engineers, and data scientists.

  • Manage product releases based on projected team capacity, estimated size of features, business priorities, and support constraints.

  • Lead cross functional business teams through lean product discovery practices to validate and identify solutions to customer problems.

  • Help manage Kitamba’s product roadmap.

  • Assist in managing Kitamba’s web properties, as needed.

  • Assist in the development of contracts for development vendors.

  • Create business cases to drive investment decisions. 

  • Provide transparency to stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.

About You

  • A BA/BS with strong academic background, even better if you have an advanced degree. 

  • Previous experience working as a Product Manager and relevant training.  CSPO or CSM certification strongly preferred.  

  • Demonstrated ability to exceed goals and have a bottom-line, action focused orientation.

  • The ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into a product roadmap. 

  • The capacity for managing and leading people cross functionally; ability to connect with people both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of business concepts, strong business writing skills, strong knowledge of spreadsheet and presentation software, experience with Jira product management software, effective communication skills, with an ability to share and synthesize knowledge.

  • A sense of humor and the ability to work in a dynamic environment a significant plus and an interest in working with an innovative company seeking to expand its focus on products.

Project manager

Project Managers lead Kitamba projects – from initial scope definition, to execution, to final product delivery. Additionally, Project Managers lead client interactions and often manage one or more Kitamba Business Analysts staffed to their projects. This role is similar to an Engagement Manager at McKinsey or a Consultant at Bain. Project Managers must demonstrate the ability to: 

  • Plan, execute, and adapt a diverse array of projects in dynamic environments

  • Incorporate input from multiple stakeholders to mobilize groups toward common and ambitious goals

  • Work effectively with multiple groups of clients to deliver high quality products

  • Self-motivate and demonstrate capacity to prioritize, ensuring time is spent on highest leverage actions

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to generate meaningful insights

  • Communicate efficiently: break down large and complex analyses into actionable recommendations while reserving the ability to drill deeper as needed

  • Manage Business Analysts: lead their contribution to projects and ensure they develop new skills and professional capacities

about you

The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground and innovating to drive institutional change in the education sector. The candidate should have proven experience managing people and projects, preferably in the private sector or in high-impact public sector organizations. The successful candidate will most likely have had management experience and a minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated operating experience and leadership. The requirements for this position are:

Education: Undergraduate degree required; MBA or similar advanced degree highly desired
Results: A proven track record of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness
Strategic Vision and Agility: Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into a project

You will help multiply his presence by leading mission-critical projects, creating outstanding content, connecting the dots across our projects internally, and helping to shape our communications to tell our story externally. By working directly with our CEO, you will have the unique opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to lead and manage a fast-paced, big-thinking, mission-driven organization.

The Chief of Staff will have a wide range of responsibilities and must have the ability to act quickly, bring energy and initiative, and deftly multitask. Additionally, this role requires outstanding professionalism, organization and attention to detail, and a willingness to work on a wide variety of projects and tasks.

The Chief of Staff will typically spend time as follows:

  • Lead Mission-Critical Projects (50%)

    • Manage diverse array of projects from initial scope definition, to execution, to final product delivery in areas such as schools system transformation and new entrepreneurial ventures.

    • Manage Business Analysts by overseeing their contribution to projects and ensuring they develop new skills and professional capacities

    • Lead client interactions and incorporate input from multiple stakeholders to mobilize groups toward common and ambitious goals

    • Work with our CEO and communications staff to tell our story externally

    • Lead special projects as determined by our CEO

  • Serve as the Right Hand for the CEO (40%)

    • Manage the CEO’s workflow and priorities on critical projects across the rest of the organization

    • Follow up on behalf of the CEO on key tasks and requests from the CEO, both within the organization and externally

    • Serve as a point of contact and liaison within the organization for requests for the CEO

    • Develop content to support the CEO’s projects, including writing proposals, briefs, and creating PowerPoint visuals and slides, as appropriate

  • Participate in Kitamba Leadership Team (10%)

    • Participate in leadership team recurring calls and quarterly meetings

    • Provide updates for CEO-led projects in the database of existing and potential projects
